The Yardbirds started in 1963 with Keith Relf, Paul Samwell-Smith, Chris Dreja, Jim McCarty, and Eric Clapton, and they hit the charts with ‘For Your Love” in 1965. After Clapton left, Jeff Beck Joined the group and they released several Top 10 singles before Samwell-Smith left and was replaced by Jimmy Page. Eventually they disbanded and Page went on to form the New Yardbirds with John Paul Jones, Robert Plant, and John Bonham, which would later evolve into what we know today as Led Zeppelin.

“The Yardbirds were a great R&B band and for a short period in 1966 featured two of the greatest British guitarists of the decade Jimmy Page and Jeff Beck (who are included in this session) – I was so pleased to have been able to capture the moment this city “gent” in his bowler hat appeared between Keith Relf’s legs!” – Gered Mankowitz
