by Douglas Kirkland – Mexico, 1965
This shot was done by Douglas Kirkland during the shooting of the movie Viva Maria! by Louis Malle. Apparently the press was giving the movie production team a difficult time from getting any work done by crowding the sets. They decided to close the sets from the public and brought Douglas Kirkland on as a special photographer to document their journey.
At the time, Brigitte Bardot and her co-star Jeanne Moreau were regarded as some of the biggest stars in France. This is a timeless portrait of Brigitte, who many considered an icon and sex symbol. Her role in this film gained her a nomination for the BAFTA Award for Best Foreign Actress.
